A sincere thanks to those who have engaged in this public education and advocacy effort.  Fast for Families is a vital campaign that brings attention to the human toll that is being taken because of existing immigration policy and practices.  Children are separated from families, workers who are contributing to our economy are targets of exploitation, and local governments are prevented from focusing on local needs because of expanded responsibilities to enforce federal law.  The result:  an unprecedented number of deportations, extended imprisonment in overcrowded detention centers, no access to meaningful representation, and greater antipathy toward immigrants in general despite the fact that this nation was built on, and continues to thrive upon the contributions immigrants have made.  To envision and adopt a humane immigration stance takes courage and determination — and the Fast for Families are providing both to us all, now.
